I love seeing the recent interest in solarpunk: the movement itself, ethos, vision, and imagery.
But, something keeps bugging me.
We talk about solarpunk, but I'm not seeing a lot of chatter about how we get there. Specifically, the bumpy road we’ll need to travel on to reach that beautiful, healthy, thriving world that makes up the images and stories we see in solarpunk.
Why are we not talking about climate resiliency in the same conversation?
We need to ensure that communities know how to survive during uncertain times to be able to reach that desired state. We can’t afford people to get dismayed, burned out, or overwhelmed when we face setbacks, hurdles, roadblocks. Because we will.
So, to all my fellow solarpunk brothers and sisters, let’s keep that vision as our North Star while also providing the education and space for people to learn how to manage the setbacks and unknowns we’ll no doubt face.
Climate resiliency is solarpunk af.
