I can't draw to save my life

Yes, you heard that right. I can't draw.

But, that's never stopped me from sketching ideas, wireframing, or storyboarding when I collaborate with others.

I've facilitated workshops for Fortune 500s and scrappy nonprofits, and I see the same problem everywhere: too much talking, not enough making.

People hesitate to put ideas on paper because they "can't draw." But, you can express a lot with a line, circle, triangle, and square.

Take it from someone who went to art school for 5 years. I make a point to show my lame stick figure drawings to lower the bar of expectations.

Don't let drawing skills stop you from sharing your ideas. Just put something down so others can see what you're thinking. That's when progress happens.

When I facilitate, I encourage participants to stop talking and start making something, anything with their hands.

Sketches. Models. Prototypes. Doesn't matter if they're "good." It matters that they're tangible.

People can't read minds. Prototypes show others what you're thinking. You look at it, they look at it, you all discuss it, improve it together, and move forward.

That's how work gets done, by making things people can see and react to.

Want your team building instead of debating? I facilitate workshops that get hands dirty.
