Is this it? Is this the best we can do?

We’re living in the imagination of the dominant system that is actively fucking the planet up.

Everything around us (the buildings we live in, the phones we are using to read this post, the clothes on our backs, the things and systems that make up the life around us) first existed in someone’s mind. Imagination is how manifestation happens. This is foundational in creating the world around us.

What you can imagine, you can create.

We can’t talk about imagination with talking about colonization.

Colonization isn’t just about taking land. Colonization also took our ability to imagine beyond what exists now.

People invested in upholding the status-quo want the majority to think imagination is for kids because they know imagination holds power. They need you, me, and everyone else to believe this current material world is all there is.

I don’t believe that this is all there is.

Look around you. Is this it? Is this the best we can do? Is this the best we can imagine?

Out of all the billions and billions of random events, happenstance and coincidences, we’ve landed here, on a planet that is conducive to life that sustains us.

They (those status-quo folks in power) don’t want us to ask, "What if?". They are afraid we might come up with something better and build it without them.

Thinking: Can we imagine a world beyond colonization? Beyond extraction? Beyond exploited labor? Beyond our current life that is full of distraction, self doubt, loneliness, sickness?

If we can’t imagine it, we can’t build it. People in positions of power are counting on that. Our imagination is the first tool of resistance.

As designers, as artists, and concerned citizens, let’s start using it widely and often.
