Stevie and I started with a complex challenge about influencing decision makers, but we ended up discovering the solution might be radically simple... just having more conversations.
How many times do we assume we know what our clients, our bosses, our department chairs actually value? How often do we create elaborate strategies to 'convince' people when we haven't even asked them what they care about?
Our climate breakdown demands speed, but it also demands connection. We can't design our way out of this alone in our studios, classrooms, or agencies.
The real work happens when we step outside our design bubble and discover that most people (even the decision makers we think are against us) actually want the same things we do: safety, security, community.
Here's the urgent part; every day we delay these conversations is another day we're not leveraging the massive overlap that already exists between our values and theirs.
The iconography, the galas, the manifestos, they're all just tools. The real innovation is realizing that the person across the table from you probably isn't your enemy.
