Shape the future of Climate Designers

Last month was the 6 year anniversary of Climate Designers.

We launched Climate Designers in 2019 in response to a growing awareness of the widespread impact design decisions have on people and the planet.

Designers have a hand in creating everything in our modern world; the clothes you wear, the device you are using to read this, the vehicle you get around in, the place you live in.

Designers work at the beginning of the pipeline when the planetary footprint of products and services are determined. They have influence. They can move the needle.

Design decisions matter, especially at scale.

We know that designers have the creativity, skills, and power to shape a new world.

Designers, when properly educated, supported, and mobilized, can be a major driver of planet positive climate action.

When we launched six years ago, we started out with the idea that we didn't want to be a typical online design community, let alone a typical design community in the climate space.

We are design discipline agnostic. We welcome all designers. We understand the value of learning from others outside of one's own discipline.

Climate Designers marches to the beat of our own rally cry. We've created a two-week virtual summit with over 40 sessions and 30 speakers, facilitated off-site activities in the middle of the high desert in California, and produced online events introducing topics not being discussed in the design community.

Many of our past and current programs are developed by our community members, looking to further their work at the intersection of design and climate.

A lot of what we've done has been covered by Fast Co, Project Drawdown, and the LA Times.

We strive to bring important topics, engaging experiences, and the support needed to our community.

Our fundamental goal as an organization is to fundamentally redesign the design industry to put climate at the core of every designer’s work.

This has always been a passion project of mine. I do it alongside client work and teaching because I believe in it deeply. I've poured countless hours into building this organization.

But, now, we need support from those who believe in our mission.

We're 100% volunteer-run. Our overhead is modest, but right now we aren’t covering costs.

We are now accepting donations.
